[Movie Analysis] The Failures and the Pedagogy of Freedom Writers (Made 2022 Spring Semester)

Due to the nature of the requirements of this essay, at least one source is not cited as it was provided by the teacher and as a result did not need to be cited. The Failures and the Pedagogy of Freedom Writers Elliot Maxwell Sibert-Sweeney Ball State University SS 150: Social Studies Teaching Dorshele Stewart April 19, 2022 “A young teacher inspires her class of at-risk students to learn tolerance, apply themselves and pursue education beyond high school.” (IMDb, 2007) Feel good stories, and moreover, feel good movies, are a complicated subject. On one hand, they provide entertainment that can help one feel happy in a dire time and can shed light on incredible people and actions, but on the other hand, they all stem from an inherent injustice or inequality present in the world and often see normal people being forced to do extraordinary and difficult things just to get a result that others can get without trying. These stories also tend to reinforce stereotypes, albeit often accid...

[Sociology Essay] Gender Socialization Leads To Suffering And Propagates Oppression (Made 2022 Spring Semester)

[History Essay] HIST200 Major Assignment Research Module Essay + Bibliography (Made 2022 Fall Semester)

[Sociology Essay] Gender: The Overwhelming, Nonexistent Curse Inflicted by and Upon Society (Made 2022 Spring Semester)

Gender: The Overwhelming, Nonexistent Curse Inflicted by and Upon Society Elliot Maxwell Sibert-Sweeney Ball State University ENG 104: Composing Research Cameron Carter February 27, 2022 Gender is nonexistent. This is fact. It has been proven several times by several people through several means. Yet people will still argue that somehow it isn’t, that somehow gender exists and isn’t made by socialization in an infinite and horrific loop that humanity is stuck in and may never escape. Within the book Composing Gender by Rachael Groner and John F. O’Hara are a number of essays. Two of these essays will be discussed in this paper: one by Judith Lorber of gender being socially constructed and the other by Sandra Bem which effectively explains the interesting way that Judith Butler twists conservative arguments to turn them into arguments against themselves. Both of these essays help to establish the claim that gender doesn’t exist, never has, never will, and is in fact just a crue...

[Cultural Autobiography] I Can’t See My Own Culture; I Think This Will Make Me A Better Teacher (Made 2022 Fall Semester)

I Can’t See My Own Culture; I Think This Will Make Me A Better Teacher Elliot Maxwell Sibert-Sweeney Ball State University EDMU 205: Introduction to Multicultural Education Gilbert Park December 12, 2022 For many people culture is a natural part of their lives, it’s nothing strange or unusual and even noticing it’s there is difficult without something to compare it to, this much I know, this much is usual, at least so far as I am aware. However for me culture feels far more elusive and far less tangible, far less important. I know it’s there, I can logically see where it could or has come from and how it has made me who I am and how I experience it. I never think about my own culture, I never have, it doesn’t ever really come to my mind, further I feel as though my cultural experiences are nothing special at all; I think of myself as having had the usual life one would expect from a middle to upper-middle class white person aside from the fact that I my parents are gay. I have ge...

[Personal Statement] Historical Methods Personal Statement (Made 2022 Fall Semester)

I personally consider history to be the world’s oldest, longest, and most complicated creative writing exercise, held together solely by documents of questionable validity which have only just barely become more credible in the modern era of video; in short, I see history as a story, not a set-in-stone factual account of anything. I can’t say that my opinion changed at all during this class, if anything my opinion became more solidified than before, as it would appear that I am not alone. What this class without a doubt did do is help me understand history behind this definition of mine, help me better understand the complexities of the academic discipline and scholarly field that I intend to further imbed myself in. History, much like any cooperative creative writing piece, has rules, this assists its definition as a discipline. These rules ensure that people do not make up information or purposefully misreport things, make reporting history simpler, more effective and more efficien...

[Incomplete Lesson Plan] Final Project - Cumulative Essay + Explanation (Made Summer 2023)

Image
The following was entirely created by myself.   Part 1 FINAL PROJECT - CUMULATIVE ESSAY For your final project this semester, you will be reading through two second degree sources I have compiled on [Topic] and using them, along with primary sources of your own choice, to create an essay, compiling the information gathered and synthesizing a personal conclusion. Think of this as both an informative and persuasive essay, as you will be informing your audience and also attempting to present your point of view on the subject. In order to create this essay you will be writing summaries of the two sources I am providing you with. These will not only compile the information present in the sources but will also compile your own personal thoughts and ideas on these sources. After this you will be finding at least two sources of your own choosing using the methods discussed in class earlier this semester and will be repeating the summarization process. After this you will have a period of 3...
